I have to start with the rooms. Maybe 2500 sq ft for the main room and I'd like a nice engineering room as well with an attached lounge. A couple of vocal rooms and a couple iso rooms for amps and a seperate drum room would be nice. A kitchen area and shower facility is almost a must. If I am going to live in this place I don't want to be hungry or funky.

I don't know about 'ideal', but I'd just like to add some nice outboard compressors, & a few mastering plug-ins to my current stew-dee-oh.

Some dynaudio bm 6's or some adams S2.5's for nearfield monitors. I'd also get some dynaudio M4+ midfields and crank those suckers!

SWEET! those are some nice sounding suckers. They are just a little too expensive for me at the moment though I plan on owning some dynaudios soon enough. I must say you have a hell of a studio setup from the pieces of gear you randomly mention on here.

I like the logic behind that idea, though there is just too much editing that can be done VIA a computer so I can't say my studio would be computerless.

I'd buy an old brick industrial building and completely gut it, then rebuild the interior to my liking. There would be a central control room surrounded by live rooms of varying size and character. The big one would be plenty large with a high ceiling and a huge pyramid skylight (I like natural light, and pyramids) - a very lively room, the type that makes drum kits come alive. I'd have at least two medium-sized rooms with lower ceilings and some foam on the walls, and a small vocal room. I'd make sure to put monitors in every room to avoid the use of headphones whenever possible. I'd also have lots of art and plants all over the place to make it feel less like a studio and more like someone's house, and most rooms would have a couch. The big live room would probably have two.
For gear, it would definitely be ProTools HD 192 based. My computers would be top-of-the line Macs, and I'd be running 48 tracks. The only outboard gear would be mic pre's and maybe a compressor or two - the rest would be plug-ins (and I'd cram that mofo with every freakin' plug-in on the market). I'd have the fully pimped-out ICON console too. As for mic's, that would take me all night to list. Let's just say I'd have pretty much anything I could possibly need. Control room monitors would be a pair of Mackie HR824's and a n HRS120 sub. If I go with surround, I would add an HR626 for the center channel, and a pair of HR624's for the rear.
