Building a humbucker Esquire/Telecaster -Wiring help needed

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a projekt guitar for a friend and I will only be using parts from Warmoth to keep things simple.

First, the planned specs:

Thinline Tele body (mahogany, no f-hole, double black binding and candy apple red finish)

1-piece Rosewood strat neck (to be played without finish of course)

Gotoh humbucker Tele bridge

'59b as the only pickup

Then, here's the part where I need help:

We've planned on doing something similar to the Esquire controls but with a humbucker. Is it possible to get split/out of phase/parallell/series to get some different sounds from a single pickup with a simple 3-way switch? Or would it be cooler to use a rotary switch?

You can do that with a simple 4-way. Or, you can do split/series/parallel with a simple 3-way and add a phase switch, like a push-pull.

Ok, Artie, you got my attention with that response as I have a similar project slated for next year, only I'll be using a Brobucker. Fire away with your wisdom and diagrams. :)

Split-series-parallel is pretty easy with a 3-way:

Give me a sec, and I'll add the phase issue with the 4-way.

Edit: Connect the red or the blue jumper. Not both.

Edit 2: I may have spoke too soon. :D
I don't think I can add phase-reversal to a simple 4-way. I haven't given up, but it won't be quick.

Nice. I must keep this diagram. :)

Thanks!

Just a few questions:

Do I connect the humbucker directly to the switch and then to the volume/tone controls?

So, I get to choose either stud coil or screw coil for split? Is it either red or blur (as in not both at the same time)?

Just how close would a split '59 be to a typical tele bridge pickup?

Don't be afraid of telling me like I'm stupid or something. This will be my first ever humbucker mess :)
