Building amp footswitch, basic electronics info needed

Guys, Ive been thinking about building a footswitch for my Laney in place of the FS4, and Im somewhat in the dark about where to start. I have a schematic of the multi pin connector, but thats it. I dont know what kind of switches to buy, what kind of cable, or how to get one of these 5 pin DIN connectors.

From looking at this, is the middle pin positive and the others ground? I have been assuming the middle pin is + and runs to all 4 switches in the footswitch, to an LED, and then back to one of the other pins. This is purely an assumption, so please tell me if i am wrong. Any info is very appreciative!

im pretty sure that each of the pins is + for that certain device, and the center pin is the common ground to complete the circuit.

That arrow in the schematic is the sign for ground. All you'd really need to do is wire 4 on/off switches with each positive lead on the corresponding effect, and the other leads to ground.

IE-for reverb, the signal would go from the pin to one terminal of an on/off switch, then from the 2nd terminal of the switch to the ground.

Cool, that was really helpful. Thats the main thing i was confused about in terms of wiring.. now i just need to figure out how to get ahold of the proper cable and connector.. i can build an enclosure myself. Any opinions helpful guys, thanks!

You do need to be careful though. It does appear that simply connecting each pin to ground will cause the switching action, but then again, on my J-Station, there's a stereo jack used for 3 switches. The footpedal requires two diodes to work properly. You never know what they might do.

Any chance of posting more of that schematic. I could probably tell by seeing where those lines go, whether or not a switch-to-ground will do it.

Edit: There's probably no need for that. I can see that the "reverb" pin terminates into a pull-up resistor. If the other pins look similar, then a switch-to-ground will be fine.

I can look for a 5 pin DIN connnector if you want, IIRC they´re still quite common here in Germany

Hey go for it. Ive been doing searches on ebay and i found some old 4 switch peavey pedal that looks like it uses a 5 pin din, now im waiting on the seller to reply. Thanks for the help so far guys, amazing :dance:

Guys! found the full schematic! got it online by searching google :smack:
I outlined the lines so you dont have to strain to figure out where they go. I think the bottom schematic is the footswitch itself, what do you guys think?
