Burstbucker Pro mag swap?

I have Burstbucker Pros in my LP Studio (with the stock A5 magnets). They are a little scooped & brash for my taste. Anyone tried A2, 3 or 4 in BB Pros? (or UOA5?)
Thanks!

I've had A2s in them. Sounded good, if a little dark for my tastes. Makes them rounder & mellower, more woody.

Re: Burstbucker Pro mag swap?

I'd go with an UOA5 in the bridge, which will give more warmth and dynamics. An A3 or A4 in the neck, which will keep some treble for clarity. An A2 there may be kind of dark.

Lemonman, rounder, mellower & more woody is part of what I'm after (like Dickey Betts flutey sweetness). Do you recall if the bottom strings got "mushy" with the A2s?

Blueman, thanks for your input as always. From what you know of BB Pros, would you try the A3 or 4 first in the neck? (again, I love that Dickie Betts tone)

IME, the best mag combo for the BB Pros is the A3 neck, UOA5 bridge.

HTH,

A4 or A3. A3 if you want them "lean" on output, and A4 if you want them more normal in output.

They also work well if you turn the mids way up, turn the bass way down and the treble down a little bit, and add a hair of reverb.

Yeah, definitely not piano-like on the bass strings, but I can't really think of an A2 bucker I've used that I would call "tight" on the wound strings. It's one of the major reasons I've partially drifted away from A2 mags. Love the high strings, don't like the flabby low strings.

Part of the 'charm' of A2's. But, that's offset by other good qualities.

Definitely. I'm lucky enough to have enough guitars to have 'em both ways for whatever mood I'm in, but if I didn't, it would be tough to settle on only one or the other.

Re: Burstbucker Pro mag swap?

Thanks all for the input! I'll probably start with A3 neck & UOA5 bridge in the BB pros.
