The Seth Lover and Burstbuckers both sound very similar, but both have slight differences if you listen.

Re: Burstbucker vs. Seth Lover vs. Pearly Gates

The BB/Seth clip doesn't surprise me at all... The BBs seem to emphasize upper mids, and have a bit less low end...the Seth's clearer high end more low end and less mids

The PG/Seth tho surprised me...It's not been my experience hearing those pups in other Paulas...however they were 2 diff paulas and not in my own axe. Nice to hear them in the same axe and def improves my impressions of the PGb and Seths sound a bit more "flat" (which may or may not be a good thing)

Cool clips Evan, thanks for sharing!

I agree with you there, Jeff. I kinda like the Seth neck better than the BB neck but I like the PG bridge better than the Seth bridge.

Great comparison of apples to apples to apples. :) Thanks for sharing these, Evan.

The Seth Lover sounds more ballanced than the burstbucker. The Burstbucker seems to have more bass and slightly scooped mids, otherwise they sound very similar to my ears.

There's way too much compression and noise-gating on that track though.

I actually liked the Pearly Gates more.... had more body to it. I've always thought I would hate that pickup based on every other clip I've heard of it...

Which BourstBuckers are we talking about here. It sounds like hte A2 versions. My BB pro do not have that sound.

Re: Burstbucker vs. Seth Lover vs. Pearly Gates

If they came out of a R8 as Evan said they are BB1/2

Personally I like the BB better in the neck than the Seth, only cos I know with it's slightly less lows and more prominent midrange it will do that Sykes/Moore tone better, which I use alot.....but for cleans and low/medium gain classic rock, the Seth is probably the better choice.

PGb (literally) is sounding very appealing right now..I've really come to prefer the uneven wind sound vs. the even winds of the 59/AP/Seth...and I believe the PG is the only uneven wind Duncan makes(?)

Re: Burstbucker vs. Seth Lover vs. Pearly Gates

The Seth seems slighty more open than the BB. The BB doesn't sound bad either.

I like open sounding pickups. ;)

Well, if I had a choice, I'd probably go with the ones most friendly to my budget. That means the PG set. :D
