I'm really sorry, for posting this, 'cuz I'm sure it's been done to death, but I couldn't find it with search. Just wanting to find a dissimilar mate to the degaussed alnico ii in my Antiquities HB ( yeah, I know, it was awesome to start with ). BTW, anyone ever tried this ? I know someone said they like full strength replacements to make a slightly hot bridge pup. Wymore only had some full strengths it looked like. Thanks.

Yes i swapped a degaussed A5 (an old one from a '79 DiMarzio Paf) and fully charged short A5 into my Ants. The neck became muddier with both, so i ended with a A3. The Bridge was a little too bright so i ended with an A4. Both A5 did not work for me in the Ants. BTW the combo i had before was the stock deg. A2 in the neck ad full charged A2 in the Bridge, which was fine too.

Actually, it hasn't been done to death. You don't have to buy a special degaussed A5 magnet, because you can just degauss a fully-charged one yourself with a stronger magnet. No need to even take the magnet out of the pickup, either.

It's great because there's no guess work involved. You can tune the magnet to ear, with your guitar plugged in, and you don't even have to touch the pickup.

I kind of stumbled onto the idea out of desperation on a set I made that I had to get out the door fast. Gee, wonder if THIS will work...VOILA!

I don't think that will do what you want. The A2 loses some of the formerly strong mids, but the A5 will lose some the original bass and treble.
I mess with neodymium disks but to be honest the effect on sound is not too big. Very clearly the Ants' aging does more than just degauss.

Are the magnets physically aged like the Burstbucker mags, looking like they've been at the bottom of the bay for 2 years?
