Buying Strat Help?

Which strat is better material to mod to be more Yngwie like (i will not scallop it because it's just not my thing, i have charvel model 3 with dunlop 6000 frets, its great guitar but sometimes i find my self fighting guitar, like that i need more pressure on frets than on non scalloped star sound strat copy with smaller frets), 50's classic strat MIM or MIM Standard? 50's is more expensive for about 200 euros (i live in Serbia, former big Yugoslavia) and it costs 710 euros, something like that, mim standard is 520e. So is it worth the money? Because 200 euros are not little thing, for that money here i can by 2 pickups, caps, pots, jack, switch (all top quality) and sperzel locking tuners. And i just love that white body color and 50's don't have it but it has shoreline gold or fiesta red so i could live with that :duck: ... I don't know what to do, give me your opinions guys and sorry for my not so good english :beerchug: Play Loud!!!

Re: Buying Strat Help?

My advice would be to play many of the MIM standards till you find one you like. If you still like your charvel try lighter strings or changing your action. I am not a fast guitar player, so I use heavy strings, the strings that come on MIM guitars are usually very light in comparison.

Your english is very good. A few missing words, but nothing serious.

Re: Buying Strat Help?

On charvel i have 9-46 and that gauge fits me perfect, on the strat copy also 9-46. So you're vote goes for standard, thank you :newangel:

p.s. thanks for english :beerchug:

Re: Buying Strat Help?

Also what bothers me is does 50's have much better wood/hardware/build quality then standard?

Re: Buying Strat Help?

One guy is selling his strat that is 1991 strat, sunburst, rosewood, serial N1004670, it has brass nut, 2 string trees, 2-point pivot tremolo and 3 pickups are HS-3. The guitar sound great, but as much i am a sound guy rather then visual, that sunburst is.... i don't know...not my thing... also i would rather get maple fretboard, all guitars that i have/had vere rosewood... But i can survive the colors. The biggest factor here is... is it better to invest to that guitar for example, the price would be about 800-1000 euros (new 70's mim here is about 850 euro new, Am strat is 1000+ euro) or go mim standard and upgrade it?

Re: Buying Strat Help?

Dude, a well made Strat is IMO the best platform to mod on when it comes to versatility in what you can do. I say save the extra 200e for the parts to mod and pick out the best MIM Strat you can find from all the shops in your area, find the one that sings the most, plays the best, and inspires you most. Then take it home, mod it to your specs, and enjoy having a bad ass workhorse that'll always be faithful!! There's nothing wrong with an MIM standard... Especially with SD pups in them!!

Re: Buying Strat Help?

Yeah i would suggest a MIM Standard. If you can find a older used one from the 90`s that would be your best bet because they were made better back then.

Re: Buying Strat Help?

you could get a used olympic white 70's reissue off ebay for a fair price
then you could mod it
and youd be in Yngwie territory
