Buying used from an out of state Guitar Center

I've bought used gear from a GC that I frequent before. Their used gear policies are generally really good, allowing for a nice 30 day or so return policy etc.

Question is, if you spot a decent piece of used gear from an out of state GC, how does it work? Do they send it directly to you, or to the GC store of your choice? Do they charge shipping? If they ship to a another store, can you try out the gear before your tied to the purchase? Does the same return policy apply? If so and you decide to return the gear, are the shipping charges refunded?

I believe they can send it to the store of your choice OR ship it right to you, IF you buy it. If you need to return it, you still get a 30 day window to do so and you can return it to any GC.

They don't charge shipping to ship to the store or online, but if you make a return and not an exchange I believe they reserve the right to deduct the "free shipping" cost from your refund.

No, your thinking of Musicians friend that deosnt charge shipping.
yeah, Ive bought used gear before form Guitar Center online, and they do charge shipping and tax, but they are often willing to negotiate.

Everything I have bought has been shipped directly to me. There really is no cost advantage to having ot sent to the store, in fact, you have to drive to pick it up.
There would be np problem with a return eitehr way, and of course, you could try the used product out in the store...I mean, I've never done it , but it seems preposterous to assume you couldnt.

They have to charge tax if it is within the same state. State sales tax is usually not applicable if you are buying from somewhere out of state.

By the way, Musician's Friend and Guitar Center are two branches of the same company.

They can and will charge you state sales tax if they have an operating establishment in that state. I think there's at least 1 GC in each state, so you will pay sales tax even if you're ordering state to state.

I've had mostly good experience ordering and having shipped form the store to my house. Had a major screw up on there part once and had to fight like hell to get it remedied. Best advice I can say is pay with a credit card. Not a debit card, a credit card. That way you have purchase protection if something does go wrong.

I remember that! Thats great advice! I'm going to use a credit card if I ever order from them again. Thnx.

I'm an assistant manager at GC so i'll try to shed light on this.

All you need to do to buy a used piece from another store, if it's not available online yet, is call the store that has the gear and buy with them over the phone. It's a weird system that hasn't quite gotten all online. You have to use a card over the phone and the billing address MUST be the same as the shipping address. Also since its not done online they don't send you any confirmation or tracking info, weird.

Some used stuff is available online to buy, most is not and you'll have to call the store and buy it on the phone. You will have to pay YOUR state sales tax and shipping. And you will have to pay in full in when you order.

Does this help?
