BYOG DAY!

Over Christmas, my wonderful wife succumbed to my request for a guitar kit. I requested a Les Paul Junior Double Cut model from Precision Guitar because they have a reputation for a quality construction design process. While the kit itself was inexpensive compared with trying to buy an actual Gibson LPJDC, it wasn't cheap. I decided I could opt for parts from GFS, using their Dog-ear P90, tuners, wiring harness, and a Wilkinson adjustable wrap around bridge. I like the look of the wood grain on a guitar and decided I wanted to try TruOil as it has a reputation of being a strong finish that is easy to apply... Just to add to the fun; I found an idea for a pick-guard. I used a record cut in the shape of a Jr Pick-guard. The results were great for my first time. Without further ado, here's the gratuitous glamor shots...

Re: BYOG DAY!

The tru oil looks super nice

I assume you're going to touch up the pickguard edges with some sandpaper?

Re: BYOG DAY!

Clean, no frills, simple and classy. I like it. Looks a whole lot better than the Double Cuts Gibson has out at the moment imo. Congrats, hope it sounds the part.

Re: BYOG DAY!

Dang, that's awesome. I've been drooling on the SG-Jr kits they have, but I have too many projects already...
What did you apply your Tru Oil with? I've had good luck on necks using coffee filters, of all things...

Anyway cool guitar, and great job!

If you notice in the first pic, there was a Tru-Oil kit... It contained everything I needed.

Re: BYOG DAY!

Nice. Very nice. It makes me wish that I had waited and gone with Tru-Oil for the project I've been working on. Went with the Min-wax wipe on Poly instead. I think that I'll get a nice finish in the end, but not until after another wet sand or two.
Oh and killer pickguard. Can't wait 'till you post a soundclip or two.

there is a pic above that shows my other guitars hanging from the wall. The tele on the right was finished in Min-Wax Poly. The pin-striping was some cheap automotive pinstriping. That one started off as a black on black Vintage Modified Squier Tele. Only the body and pickguard remain from the original guitar. The poly is still nice, but I also only used one coat on it. Its been well over a year since I did that and its held up quite well.
