C5 for a Vintage Strat.???

Hi Guys

Im confused as always.

I see the C5 uses the Model No SH14......but I dont see a TB14.

Is there such a thing.?

Has anyone here had any experience with a C5 in a Strats Bridge position.

I hear the JB has too many high frequencies for a Star bridge.....is this true.......whereas the C5 is a warmer pup which is what Im trying to do with my Strat bridge....warm it up.

Thanks for your help.

Yes the TB14 is a standard pickup available in black or zebra. That's the version of the C5 I would recommend for a Strat. I hear the C5 as having the more extended high end, compared to the JB. When people refer to the JB as being bright, I think they are referring to an upper midrange peak in the JB's response, which some people hear as being bright. The C5 seems to have more genuine highs to me. I have only tried it in one guitar, a Hamer Studio, but the C5 did replace the JB the guitar originally came with. So I have heard them both in one guitar. Lew

The C5 is a great pup, but for a vintage sounding humbucker in a bridge pos. on a strat, it's not exactly what i'd put in first - i'd go with a pearly gates or somthing else.

Well...if we're just talking personal preference, I'd go with 59 Trembucker. I just like it best! And it's very close to the a5 PG+ Fender uses in the Lone Star Strat. Lew

The C-5 is an amazing pickup, since to my ears they sound equally good in both Les Pauls and strats. I have nickel covered one's in my Pauls, and swear it's the best pickup for those guitars. I also bought a tremspaced C-5
for my alder/rosewood strat. Again, it sounds amazing. It even balances tonally with the 2 Fender Fat 50's that are in it. I think the 59 and C-5 are very similar, but if you want a little more oomph, go with the trem C-5.
That pickup is also very balanced sounding, so it'll work perfect for all styles,
clean or distorted. Think of it as the output of a JB with the tone of a vintage Alnico 5 pickup. If you have an Ash/maple strat, I'd maybe opt for
a Custom Custom Tremspaced to tame the highs.

I agree. I think the 59 Trembucker balances well with vintage output Strat pickups and pickups like the Duncan SSL-1 or 2 which are jusy slightly stronger than vintage. Lew
