C8 & Cuo5 differences?

I imagine a Custom 8 pickup will have more output than a Custom uoA5. Would those who have tried both describe other tone differences? Thanks!

Re: C8 & Cuo5 differences?

C8's are warm, high output, lots of mids, firm low end; like an 'alnico meets ceramic' sound. Very versatile in many guitars, woods, and genres.

UO C5's (the 'Blueman Signature Custom') is more vintage sounding. Moderate output, lots of dynamics, full mids, more of an 'A5 meets A2' sound. It's warmer than a C8, and more responsive, more organic, chewier, smokier, looser, more 'sag'. To me, it's much more 'PAF on steriods' than a C5. If you like a bright, sharp, twangy bridge PU, this isn't it.

For blues, classic rock, & jazz players that want a warm, earthy tone, try an UO C5. A C8 will do these, without quite as much 'character', and also do heavier rock and metal.

You should tell us about your guitar, amp and style/technique and we can recommend the right magnet for you. Can't go wrong with a UOA5 or a A8 for any style, in my opinion.

UO C5's (the 'Blueman Signature Custom').

Keep claiming it, blueman, and they just might put it into production and name it after you! I think you've earned it.

Re: C8 & Cuo5 differences?

C8 = thicker, fatter, hotter, tighter, more modern, more agressive, less dynamic

UOC5 = much less mids, softer bass, more dynamic, brighter, still thick, but in a more vintage way (think Angus)

Good questions: Bridge slot of a Parker Fly Mojo (all mahogany body & neck but still pretty bright due to Fly construction) into Reverend tube amps with a full pedalboard. Jazz, Americana, Blues & even some "country" & world. A little hard rock & zero metal. I love a nice singing PAFish sound and also need decent cleans on occasion. A decent coil split sound would be a plus too.

It sounds from what Blueman especially says the the Cuo5 would be the ticket. ('course there might be a bit of bias there:-)
Interestingly I did a JB8 in a Parker that I like quite well, not as overpowering as one might expect and good split sound.

Custom-custom is just too middy & lacks bottom for me, Custom is too over the top, and C5 too top end spikey in this guitar.

Thanks for the opinions so far. I have both mags on hands (uoA5 & A8) (and rcA4). I am listening & taking it in!

Edit to add, uoA5 Jazz in the neck slot at present, liking it pretty well but may try an Alnico Pro N sometime too.

A while ago I made a post comparing the Custom 5, Custom UOA5 and the Custom 8. Take a look and see if it helps. =)
