C8 In a Bright LP? What Should Replace the WLH Bridge...

I have a LP Trad Pro, and it's heavy and can be bright. I'm looking to replace the WLH, which NAILS the Jimmy Page tone, but I'm not digging it for what I do.

I play high gain amps ala Splawn, BFG modded Egnater Seminar head, and I don't need a super hot pickup to drive the amp. I have the C8 in some strats and I like it. I want something that is articulate, balanced, not too bright or middy, and can do rock and hard rock to some early metal.

Would the C8 work in my LP or should I be looking at something else in the Bridge?

I would try a Custom with a UOA5. C8 might be just a bit too much of all that you are looking for.

The other pups between the WLH and Custom output wise are the Screamin Demon, 59/Custom hybrid, Jason Becker, and the Distortion NECK.

You seem to be sensitive to your guitar being shrill and bright. I might recommend a JB A2. The A2 takes any and all shrill out of it and leaves a powerful rock pickup in there. I recommend using an old one rather than newer production.

I'd go Screamin' Demon A2. Sounds phenomenal in mine without all the output of the JB.

Good suggestions so far! I'm curious to try some of those as well. I'd definitely give a c8 a try.. especially if you have some around. It's prolly my favorite pickup! Sounds awesome in my explorer thru my quick rod! Of course the explorer doesn't have the maple top, so no guarantees, but worth a try..

If you like the C8 in strats for what you are doing, then a Custom 8 in your LP is an obvious first thing to try.

After that, if it's too punchy/bright, swapping the magnet for UOA5 if you want warmer.

Maybe try the WLH in the donor strat?

Double thick alnico mags are $$ for rounding out bridge position. I think you'd like em!

Re: C8 In a Bright LP? What Should Replace the WLH Bridge...

The Custom pups really aren't so high output and might be just the ticket. But a C/59 or a Demon would also be great choices. If the guitar really is bright, then any Custom or the C/59 or Demon with a UOA5 or A2 magnet would be good. The JB is way too much for what you want.

I agree with the Custom suggestions. Get a selection of magnets, and get used to their unique properties. I am sure there is something there that will work for you.

Thanks everyone. I'm not good at swapping mags and I don't solder, so I'm hoping the first one I try is right. I'm leaning toward a C8, but lowering it a bit from the strings. Any thoghts on trying that first?
