Cabinet got soaked...

One of my 4x12 cabs got soaked a week or so ago. I haven't tried using it since then.... think it'll be ok? Should I do anything before trying it?

Re: Cabinet got soaked...

Was it left in the rain? Did your basement flood? Did you put it in the shower? Was it used as a target in a super-soaker battle?

Basically, are the speakers wet? Those should dry out and be fine - you might want to worry about the wires corroding or water shorting things.

If the wood is wet... the tolex should prevent most wood soakage, but it might start molding down the road if you're really unlucky. :laugh2:

Re: Cabinet got soaked...

lol.... you guys...you freakin' guys!

Seriously though, it was just rained on.... rain blew in under my covered porch and soaked it. Speakers were facing AWAY from rain and didnt get too wet. Cab is dry as a bone now it seems.

Re: Cabinet got soaked...

take the back off and look around ... dry off anything that looks damp .. a little wd40 on all contacts to disperse moisture
good luck

It's weird. I keep trying to picture the scenario but all I'm getting is a weird cross between this...

Re: Cabinet got soaked...

The first Marshall cab I ever bought had been submerged. The music store I bought it from had a fire and the sprinkler system filled the basement with 2 1/2 feet of water and they used to keep their used gear down there. Got a KILLER deal on the head and cab. You can still see the water line on the grill cloth. Never A/B's it with another cab of the same vintage but that cab is still rockin some 17 years later.

Re: Cabinet got soaked...

All you really need to be concerned about is the speaker cones. Just pull the back and make sure there is no moisture on the speakers.

Given that the speakers were facing away, and it has been over a week since, I would think you would be fine.

Re: Cabinet got soaked...

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll give the amp a good looking over tonight and see how she is.

good idea on the wd 40!

I bought a cab from Ascension and the moron ups guys left it at my front door. my wife A) couldnt lift it in and B) was ticked that I bought it, so she failed to mention it was there. When I got home from work at 2am, it was dark and I didnt see it.. so it sat outside, in the pouring rain for a good 12 hours . Next morn, I peeled the soggy cardboard off. epened it up and dried everything out as thoroughly as I could. Thank God it worked, wasnt stolen and seems ok. Was wet inside too, but I dont think the cones got wet
