I personally love to build my guitars. You have to do what makes you happy. If you want resale value, buy the FSR. But you if you want bragging rights and a guitar made the way YOU want it, build it. Check the threads where I included photos of my builds.

Yup I've seen yours. Nice job. I've got 2 tele builds going on right now too. Just thinking out loud I guess.

Depending on the options you want, you could get a Cabronita body and neck from Warmoth and once you include all the various parts, you're looking around the same price for the build.
Ultimately comes down to if you want to have a project to work on which will yield little resale value, or get the fender and let it hold its value.

Very cool indeed. I want to build Cabronita someday. Right now I am waiting for a left-hand Warmoth Black Korina Strat body that I had built-to-order to build as a right-hand player. (I love the look of when Jimi Hendrix flips his' strats) I had made a left-hand Strat before and created a stainless steel pickguard for a pair of humbuckers. I kept the pickguard and will be using it for the build to come. Photos to come.

If you are going to buy a Fender example, PLEASE make it an American version. These are ultra-light, ultra-resonant and feature genuine TV Jones Classic (Filter'Tron replica) pickups. The Fender MIM version will disappoint on a number of levels.
Self build has its appeal. I shall be bolting together a Warmoth.
