Calling Bachtorock, hybrid help

Seeing as your the resident hybrid master, actually STRATDELUXER97 as well knows the ins and outs, might help with this as well. I am considering something here but not sure if it would work. I have a PG bridge and a JB. I like the PG, but it could use some punch, just a tad. I like the JB but it could be a little less, it seems to be over the edge sometimes.
Is this a possible hybrid or am I just going to scatter things with these 2.

Thing is I have a JB in the bridge of a Jackson and thought maybe the PG would sound good in there? Then I got thinking a cross between the PG and JB would be awsome but it could just be some far off tone I am thinking of in my head.

Anything is worth trying and it might work for you...

My favorite stock pickups are the PAF types(59, PG, SETH, etc.) and the Custom series and the 59/Custom Hybrid fits the bill perfectly for me.

I have found that the JB works best with the Custom coil in a Hybrid, but one forum made a 59/JB Hybrid and really liked it.

You might even want to consider a regular old Custom Custom

I appreciate the positive comment, but Pete(Bachtorock)gets all the credit for turning so many of us on to the hybrids...I'm just a copy cat,but Pete is mentor!

Pete,

What have you tried besides the Jazz/59, Custom/59, and JB/Custom?

Re: Calling Bachtorock, hybrid help

I have tried just about everything through the years with different magnets and coil combinations. I try and just promote what I found to be great pickups.

The 59/Custom combination is perfect to me with fine tuning done with A2 or A5... the optimum PAF with balls and no compression. The 9k+ PAF pickups sound congested to my ears... the EVH is pretty cool... it is better than a 59, but the Hybrid takes the cake.

The 59/APII is a really nice combo, obviously Seymours brainchild coils for true vintage tone... also good with either A2 or A5

The JB/Custom combo is great for the more progressive or modern tone and works well with A5 or the normal Ceramic magnet from the Custom... I have not tried it with the Big Ceramic from the Distortion... with an A2 it was good, but lacked dynamics.

In the neck I like all combinations of a PAF style coil (59, SETH, PG) and the other Duncan vintage style winds(JAZZ, APII)

I really want to change one of the coils of a Stag Mag to a 59 coil as the stock coils appear to be similar to a Custom.

Interesting! I'd be very interested in hearing your impressions of the results!

Re: Calling Bachtorock, hybrid help

I am definately gogin to try the pg/jb hybrid. I am looking for a recommendation though, as far as placement.

Would you just swap the tops from both and then put then place them acording to the pickup with the highest output in the bridge? Any ideas

Re: Calling Bachtorock, hybrid help

I don't understand your question...
Are you planning to use both in one guitar?

Re: Calling Bachtorock, hybrid help

Yhey will have the same output... I would recommend against what you are thinking and go with an actual neck pickup for a better balance.
