"Calm before thew storm" Dream trance"

Re: "Calm before thew storm" Dream trance"

It's got a nice feel, I like it. Calm before the storm that is.

A few tips from someone who use to make Trance music for a couple of labels. The piano needs a low cut filter on it and should be pushed back in the mix more imo. It is also relentless, you need to give it a rest since it's your hook and only bring it in as a "hook" the thing about trance when you don't have vocals is to use the melody, the main one, as the hook. It's also better to make a solid theme out of it. In addition I think instead of straight upbeats on the bass and high hats you could have a more interesting sequencing pattern for both - don't forget to use filters on those hats to give them that effected sound too. Listen to some of the more progressive producers for some ideas. Paul Oakenfold's label Perfecto is a good place to start. I also think the Buddha Bar CD's are worth a listen for this kind of Trance.

Good job!

Listen to the rolling bass line in this at the start. It's very common to stay on the tonic with the bass until the first break down, then go to your chord progression after the first break down.

Notice how they use the synth chord progression as the hook and use Sarah's vocals for the verse part. Then at 5:21 the main vocal hook comes in the big break down, just briliiant this track.

The first track in this video, has some nice hats and shakers plus a more interesting bass line sequence that I mentioned.

I was going to tell you the other day and forgot. I was using Robert Miles' "Dreamland" cd as my production reference. Not that I am not open to learn from other producers but thats what influenced the production style on this track as well as "renew the dream". The artists that have really inspired me of late have been Arthur Deep and Claes Rosen. My next tracks will likely reflect that and be much more progressive in nature.

Uh love the "old" feel of this one!
Funny to think that electronic music saw the light in 68:D
I really dig your stuff man, this is one sweet track!

Just my 2 cents. EDM music has always been about pushing music forward. That said if you're looking to get in the game I suggest staying on top of the latest trends. If you're doing it for yourself then never mind. :headbang:

Agreed my friend. I am doing it for both. To me Robert miles "Children" is a timeless track yet, I hear what your saying. That is why as I create more music I am going to be heading a more progressive direction. I jsu recently discovered the progressive house genre and love the great stuff in that sub genre that I have heard.
