Can 1/4 Lb. Pole Pieces Be Pushed?

Hello,

I am having some horrendous string imbalance issues with my flat poled 1/4 Pounders. was wondering if the coil windings are directly in contact with the magnets in 1/4 Lb. pickups. If so, it's a risk to adjust the poles. But if not, I will have at it. I am wondering about the single coil P and the J pickups specifically.

Thanks.

That's a good question and I've got nothing.

Maybe check the forums for OEMs who include guitars that come with 1/4 inch pole pieces like G&L.

they are old school style so the magnets touch the coil. a buddy of mine just killed his ssl3 pushing the magnet after i warned him not too.

I've heard equal success/horror stories about this. The official Duncan stance is 'don't do this'.

With a neo disc magnet you can lower the magnetic power on certain strings. Just wave over the the poles and check the sound. A gaussmeter would be great, but your ears will tell you, too
