can 60 watt tube keep up with 100wat solid state

as the title said, i need to know if a 60 watt all tube hot rod deville410 will keep up or be drowned out by a 1oo watt solide state half stack???

Re: can 60 watt tube keep up with 100wat solid state

if you're in a battle for volume, im sure both of them could get pretty high... it really depends on the model.

both of them will probably* be louder than you will need.

my other gutairist is playing on a ibanez tone blaster...im keep on being told that the hot rod 60watt is equivelent to 180 watt, is this true?

nobody really needs more that 50 watts unless they are playing to say a stadium...but I belive that in MOST cases a 60 watt tube amp will walk over a 100watt S amp...but, an AC-30 (33 watts...MAX, and tube) will walk over most 80 watt tube amps! Remember you can NOT hear a watt!

Plus it all depends on weather or not you want a clean tone. speakers, there are a million factors that go into a question like that

Depending on the efficiency of the solid state rig's speakers, I'd expect the deville to piss on it for overall volume and clean headroom.

A watt is a watt is a watt.... There are quite a few related threads regarding this very subject.

A watt isn't a watt.... a 60 watt tube amp and 60 watt solid state may saturate at around the same volume level, but additional overdrive will give you a volume increase with the tube amp but it will not give you a volume increase with the solid state, you'll simply get more distortion.
