can a brother get some feedback on his mp3 clip?

Howdee, I just signed up here. I wanted to share my 1st recording of 2005 with ya'll and maybe get some feedback.

I'm trying to break my drum machine dependency, so I played the drums myself on my yamaha electric kit (I'm a newbie drummer, been playing less than a year). I also played all the other instruments.

Anybody who gives me some feedback (good or bad, doesn't matter) I will personally guarantee you that I will give your clip a priority listen in return ... this is my pledge to you.

peace

haha

the intro i thought.. ooo yea, this is just what i need now, relaxed music for the night, good material to go to sleep with, very nice.. then the distortion kicks in :D

good phrasing, i like the riffs too, done with class... is it just me or does the overall 'feel' of the gainy bit really remind me of queen .. whats that song - oh yes we'll keep on trying, we'll tread that fine line, oh we'll keep on trying.. till the end of time
innuendo isnt it??
anyway.. the lead work is something i'd like to be able to do. (and we got another one that can play better than me :yell: but that aint hard to achieve :blackeye: )

nice song. i'd like to see you do something diferent for that middle bit, before it repeats itself again.. maybe a slow drum bit with a slow bluesy solo and expand that part a bit. but i dig it. could be longer and have a bit more variety structure vise, but the playing is cool.

Welcome to the forum =)

Re: can a brother get some feedback on his mp3 clip?

hello serg, welcome

I love this type of stuff, straight away it hit me that the playing was tight and very relaxed flowing. When the drums came in however the mix went a bit haywire, the playing was tight but the mix went a bit funny, the electric guitar needed more volume or something and the drum sound was slightly brash. As far as the song content went tho it cannot be faulted it was very good, brilliant ideas.

The only problem I can say about this track is the section that repeats with the drums something happens to the mix that I dont like, the actuall song is brilliant underneath but I feel some people would hear this mix and maybe not appreciate it as much as if it was mixed better. Your clean spanish guitar section is mixed really well.

very cool tune ... i loved the acoustic intro ... the guitar couldve been hotter in the mix ... very nice tone and chops

thanks for sharing it

i for one like that the guitar aint that much out (could be a touch louder thats true, but not overpowering).. and the multiple tracks of the lead give it that cool echoing effect.

That Spanish acoustic tone is to die for! Really sweet playing. The distortion part reminded me a lot of "Kashmir", but a lot more heavy and modern. Was that long-delay solo bit you did near the end inspired by Brian May? I like to use that too :)

How do all you Guitar.com dudes get so good?! :saeek:

Re: can a brother get some feedback on his mp3 clip?

Wow! Great guitar tone and playing. I like the clean intro the most. The distorted parts sound very compressed.. it seems like they could be more "in your face".
Good job on the drums too :saeek:

Re: can a brother get some feedback on his mp3 clip?

Hey thanks for the welcomes, I appreciate ya'll taking the time to check out my stuff! Like I said, I'll remember you guys when its my turn to listen to some clips.

Davey - I appreciate the in depth review and kind words. You're right I think I got lazy and repeated 2nd and 3rd mellow sections, maybe I should have tried something a little different on the outro.

gavantia - thanks for listening. Yeah I was doing some weird experiments in the mix where the drums come in, lots of panning and layered guitars: 2 harmony guitars, 2 different rhythm guitar lines, and then the solo. Maybe too much going on ... I would need 5 guitarists to try and reproduce that section live ;)

Sir Nick of Nasty - thanks mate, glad you liked it.

tone4days - glad you liked it sir, thanks for the kind words.

Fo_bear5 - I tried to download your clip, but the link doesn't work ... fix it and let me know and I'll give it a listen right away man. Thanks for checking out my clip btw, glad you liked it.

Biu - thanks for the kind words sir. The acoustic bits were recorded on my Variax guitar. I'm not worthy to be mentioned in the same sentence as Jimmy Page and Brian May, but I'm sure I've been influenced by them either directly or indirectly in some way.

thanks again for the listens guys!

Re: can a brother get some feedback on his mp3 clip?

Stevo - oops you posted while I was replying to the other guys. Thanks for listening. Yeah I hear what your saying, the transition from acoustic to distorted needs some tweeking ... the volume levels of the drums and 'band' should have been noticably louder than the mellow acoustics, but they they were about the same ... which is not very realistic. Glad you liked the drums, I'm having lots of fun playing them ... even though I'm not very good yet, they still have opened some more doors creatively for me to experiment with.
