Sorry for asking again guys, but new question this time.

Can the pearly gates do some nice van halen type hard rock? Ive heard it gets great harmonics, so i was thinking i could use this to my advantage. Honestly im just worried how it will respond to high gain situations? Really hoping for a nice tone though.

Thanks guys- andrew

(P.S its getting installed monday)

With an appropriate rig to back it up, yes it can

I think the first VH album was recorded with his patchwork strat with a PAF in the bridge, so I see no reason why it can't do those tones...

Re: Can a PGb do Van halen and other hard rock ok?

Wouldent be my first choice for trying to get that tone, but still a good pup for Rock, not METAL IMO. I think the Custom comes a bit closer, but thats my ear.

I'd try a 59B first, but the Pearly is a Great pickup.

A pearly, 59 or Antquity into a cranked Marshall Plexi is going to sound really nice - take your pick, they all will get you in the ballpark (don't forget the Seths). Basically any PAF type pickup is going to give you a good crunchy sound with lots of harmonics.

Re: Can a PGb do Van halen and other hard rock ok?

I would go with a Custom in the bridge, myself. I use one in both my LP and my G400 and can get very nice EVH-like tones with no probs. I used to have straight PG's in my LP, but there was a noticeable increase in output when I traded the bridge pup with a Custom. More chunk.
It's a fun pickup to play!

The PGb is a great rock pickup! I found that it can do metal with the right rig. :saeek:

Hey Rhoads, if you're gonna scoop out your mids, like a lot of Metal Players do, don't go with the Pearly. The Pearly is all about Mids !!! :)
