Can a Plexi be modded to a Jtm45?

Has anyone converted a Plexi 59 style to a jtm45? May sound like a silly question but I have a Plexi that I had built for me and I love it but almost think I want the cleans of a jtm45 to push for Pedals for more headroom? Thoughts? :) Love my Plexi by the way but it gets a little too saturated I feel with pedals driving the preamp section even when running the master high and slowly bringing in channels 1&2! Super close but could use that extra bump in db’s For solos when kicking it in!

A JTM45 has less headroom than a Plexi due to the tube rectifier. If you want more headroom you need to run less volume on your pedal chain or maybe swap the V1 preamp tube for a 5751 or 12AY7.

What model plexi (Marshall) has a master volume? None that I know of.

Yes, you could mod it to be JTM45-ish... but we're talking big time mod changing values of the components, etc...

And if it's PCB, all the more difficult.

Toughest part would be adding the rectifier tube, though.

I think a better question is SHOULD it?

But - I won't rain on possibility. Why not run the volume down, and get the JTM45 pedal of your choosing?

+1, and should probably swap to KT88s or 6550s.

The JTM45 and the 100 are the two plexis that sound most like each other, because of their bass response, although they sound different of course. The 1959 is much, much, louder. The 50 watt has less bass.

It was a custom build that’s why it has a master! It’s all point to point handbuilt from scratch! Definitely not PCB but I may just leave it and try different tubes :)

I may just swap tubes and try!! Maybe I’m overthinking this!! Thank you for your insight!

as others said, seems like going to a jtm45 circuit would be going the wrong way. run your master volume all the way up and try a 5751 in v1. are you jumping channels? if i was going for more headroom i wouldnt do that, id just use whichever one sounded better
