Re: Can Anyone Directly Compare a Demon to a JB?
I'm playing a Demon in my Dinky in lieu of the JB I had in there previously. Wow, you know I'm no good at this, but here goes...
I put a demon in my Dinky several years ago expecting my speakers to melt. It didn't happen and I was disappointed, and replaced it with a JB, which I really liked. Then after awhile and after learning lots of stuff thanks to the wonderful folks here, I decided to give the Demon another whirl.
The Demon takes some getting used to after having the high-output JB, as the Demon is fairly middle-of-the-road. I had to use a little more gain through my TS9 to get the sound I wanted, rhythm-wise. It took some getting used to for sure. If you're looking for a gain monster, look elsewhere.
As for tone, I do prefer the sweeter tone of the JB, however the Demon definitely has better articulation for pull-offs, etc, and I think has better harmonics. It's a little janglier and more open sounding than the JB also. I think the JB is definitely the more aggressive of the two, while like the ad says, the Demon has less bite and more growl. As for cleans, well it's sort of a wash in my opinion. I'm gonna stick with the Demon for now as it is different than all my other guitars, and since learning to get it to growl like I like, I've come to like that setup, and besides I've got that Distortion loaded Soloist if I really want aggressive.
