Or any tube combo for that reason and...and just use it like powered speakers (i would use a preamp)...like the tech 21 power engine?

Re: Can I bypass the preamp on bassman?

I don't think it would sound very good - nor would it work very well.. The whole point of the pre-amp is to buffer and eq the signal. I think the guitar signals voltage is too low for the 6l6s to get to anything loud enough for any setting. It depends if you're going to use a pre-amp before it I guess. If you use a seperate pre-amp it shouldn't be a problem. I'm pretty sure those pre-amps are there for a reason.

Well, I would use something like a sansamp with it....

This is just an idea

If the amp has an effects loop. Plug the preamp into the effects return. The signal goes straight to the power section.

good point. I thought he just meant amplifying the sound only w/ the power amp. But that should work.

Re: Can I bypass the preamp on bassman?

That's what it does. If you plug a preamp or modeling unit straight into the effect return, you bypass the amp's own preamp section. It is a really cool way to set your stuff up if you want to focus on the external processor's capabilities. Also, if the processor/modeler has an "amp/line" switch, go with "line"-level, or try both and see which sounds better.

Re: Can I bypass the preamp on bassman?

Well I have two amps...a bassman...no effects loop and a crate v-series it has a line in line out...is that the same as an effects loop???

Re: Can I bypass the preamp on bassman?

Yes, "line in/line out" is another way of labeling effect loop jacks.

Yes, on the V-Series the line in is the return.
You can run it into the Bassman, turn all the tone knobs to 5 for the flattest response.

Re: Can I bypass the preamp on bassman?

typically 555 isnt flat response, its actually very hard to get a flat response with a guitar amp. just set it how it sounds best
