Can I get away cheap? LP 56 RI

The other day I played a LP '56 Re issue and fell in love with it. But........$2700!!!!!!!(w/tax) It had the same feel as my studio smartwood and plus. I wonder if I was to buy a Studio premium Plus and put Phat Cats in it, If It would be close in sound and feel. The looks of the gold top and aging really don't do anything for me.
What do all you LP players think?

Perhaps look for a s/h LP studio gem series. Or try a s/h PRS McCarty Soapbar.

Go get some quotes for the R6 from some of the Les Paul Forum's forum dealers.

I got my brand new R8 for less than musician's friend sells regular ol' standards for.

It's a different guitar, but you could buy a nice LP Special for short(er) money.

The Japanese so-called lawsuit guitars might be worth checking out, too.

Mark's Guitar Loft just had the same guitar for $2100, so the LP Forum thing is great advice.

Re: Can I get away cheap? LP 56 RI

I've watched a few of the Gems go by on Ebay for not too bad a price. I've just never had one in my hands and I'm not up on the quality and specs. If anyone knows where I can get some info it would be appreciated.
I thought the Phat Cats were supposed to be a P-90 in a H/B can!? No?!
I watched a PRS McCarty Soapbar go by on ebay but the price hit $2K and if I'm gonna go that high, might as well bite the bullet for the RI.
I've heard great things about the Tokai but I would'nt know where to get my hands on one. Never see 'em around here.
I'll have to get on the LP forum. I've actually never been on it. How do you go about finding dealers there? Just put up an "anyone wanna sell me a '56 RI" post?

The other guitar player I play with just bought a used one of these. He got it for under 2K. Its a great guitar and the one thing I can say is Gibson P90's are very impressive pickups. I know a few guys that have these guitars and they sound very good with the stock pickups. I prefer the Duncan Antiquity P90's. I have a set in a Schecter Tempest and they are amazing in this guitar. I can only imagine what they would sound like in a Les Paul.

You can find an R6 cheaper than that...I got one for 1500 out the door (and it was a BR board).

I just sold my 56RI to a fellow forum bro for $1900 and change. They are awesome guitars. Try to get one on the lighter side as they can get kind of hefty.
