Can I get SD SH-6 for strat HSS, plus which for mid and neck?

New at this (and hope this post is okay), so I buy a Mexican Strat, and the sound is just thin. Thank God it was an HSS, the one with the Humbucker, or I'd really be playing some mellow tunes!

I see everyone is hot-rodding these under-equipped things, so I wanted to swap out to the Seymour Duncan SH-6, which has got mad reviews. Need your guidance, though!

STRAT SPECS:

Body: Alder
Neck and Fingerboard: All Maple
Amplification: (do you care?) Yamaha powered board, EMX 5014c, through 15 - inch Yamaha speakers w/subwoofer.
What I play: Blues, Johnny B. Goode type stuff, harder Neil Young, U2. Rhythm + lead.

So, kind Sirs, is it okay for me to get that SH-6, and if I do, ***what the heck should I get for the single-coil mid and the single-coil neck pickups?***

Please don't say it all depends on my preference, as since I really have no idea, I am unable to form a preference. THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

A lot of people like the SH-4 JB in Strats. I would recommend the Lil 59 for the neck.

Okay, so Shuv, what you are saying to me is this, am I right?

1) Don't rush to get the SH-6 on the bridge, try the SH-4.

2) As to the middle pickup, Shuv offers no opinion. (So, we're still discussing this.)

3) Go with the Lil 59 on the neck (humbucker in the size of a single coil).

Or were you suggesting something different, Shuv? Thanks much.

I am enjoying learning about all this stuff.

Okay, well, I'm moving on with this:

I got the SH-6 as I originally had considered.
With the Lil 59 as indicated by Shuv.
And a Little Screamin' Demon to perk things up (guess that's for the middle).

Hope this is right. If it's really not, please write anybody to me soonest so I can try to block this.

Give those a shot and if they don't work out for you, Seymour Duncan has a 21 day exchange policy so you can try others.

You should leave a true single coil in the middle (and possibly the neck too) so that you get some semblance of single coil quack. You might consider swapping it out to a Duncan, but also, a lower output in the middle works fine for this; so you could leave the middle as is. Everybody has their preferences, but I find it odd when people recommend to swap out all pickups of a strat with rails or lil humbuckers in ALL positions.

Hey, thanks much to Shuv and Folo for the thoughtful advice. Interesting note by Folo on keeping at least one true coil. If I do that, it still wouldn't be the Mexican Fender pickup that comes with it. Like I say, I am new at this, but I didn't buy a strat to have weak sound (guess the maple fretboard doesn't help, though it does look fine). Folo, any other decent (white) single coil come to mind, suitable for a Strat? For example, I can return the Screamin' Demon unopened when I receive it if need be, and order something else for the mid.

Partly to ease my troubles over all this, I ordered the Limited Edition Mahogany G-400 Epiphone Alpine White with EMG 81 and 85 hummers, 22 frets and a *Rosewood* fretboard! So (when it arrives!) I'll have something to play while the soldering-iron devils are loading them new Seymour Duncans into my strat! The white axe is 500 bucks and you are stuck forever with that Epi head stock, but the sound should be fat and, guys, it looks sharp in the pictures! :) :) :)

Re: Can I get SD SH-6 for strat HSS, plus which for mid and neck?

I'm gonna start a new threat here on The Dilemma (I'd call it Folo's Dilemma, but it ain't his, its mine, and my name is unpronounceable regrettably...)

The new topic: What superior (white) single coil do you buy for a Strat, midposition?

Re: Can I get SD SH-6 for strat HSS, plus which for mid and neck?

With a maple neck strat, I would probably go with an APS-1, or a texas hot antiquity. Although, I would probably only do the antiquity, if I was getting a neck antiquity too. They aren't white either.

Well The SH-6 would be overkill for your style. It's a great PU and i own it ,but for your style and your equipment ,it will be too bright ,too punchy and too Compressed i think! The PATB-3 Blues Sarasceno or the Original Trembucker PATB-1 would be more acurate .less compressed, warmer and more dynamic.I wouldn't get any PU with a Ceramic magnet for the bridge!
