Can I have some opinions about VOX

What do you guys think of the VOX AC15 & AC30s? The valvetronix with the 20 some odd effects on it? Are the older ones better? if they even still make them?

Re: Can I have some opinions about VOX

Here's mine:

AC = excellent if it's the sound you're looking for. The AC50 is a little different and Astrozombie may be someone to look at in the tips and tricks for that. (I like the AC50 more than the 15 and 30)
The VR series (valetronix power stage, no digital) Excellent value for the money if you're looking for Vox tone and don't have enough for the ACs. I think they did them right.
Valvetronix = The old AD-- series sound better, down to the 15. If you can get an AD60 or 120vtx, you should jump on it. The new VT-pro is pretty much on the level of the old AD120, only massively loud. 300 watts with the extension cab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want MORE effects, the VT is what you need. there's pre-amp effects as well as post, like stompboxes et al. The older AD series only has amp+time/mod effects.

What else...
The Amplugs sound good. The guitars are, as far as I'm concerned, excellent for the cost. I want an ssc33 or 55 in teaburst.

Re: Can I have some opinions about VOX

oh, and the Night Trains are good for what they are as well, albeit something I like less than the ACs. It reminds me of the Supersonics from Fender; trying to get some crossover into hi-gain in a small form factor. I'd still get one though.

Re: Can I have some opinions about VOX

My "VOX AC-30" is actually a Mesa Maverick 212 V30 combo. With the channel switching and the efx loop, it is a lot more versatile than the VOX, grabbing those tones but also some Twin and Plexi tones. And far more reliable...

Re: Can I have some opinions about VOX

I tried one of the newest AC30s recently - I believe it was the C2 - and it killed. I had GAS instantly. I have a Fender already and I have a marshall clone incoming. The only thing left for me to get is a Vox. It's a great tone - when pushed, they're chimey but they grind beautifully at the same time.

The first Foo Fighters album was a Rat into an AC30.

Re: Can I have some opinions about VOX

I cannot comment on the Valvetronix.
The CC and later C models are fine amps.
Each have their +/-
You can get them used for Real Cheap...compared to their retail price.

Getting a CC with the Lyle Caldwell mods is the way to go.....IMHO.
If you live near me, I have a modded CCH you can play. Keeping in mind I did the LC mods and installed a Heyboer clone of a Woden OT.
good luck

Cool guys! Thanks for the valuable info! I have this AC15VT I just got it's a 23w but I don't know what year it is? Is it possible to find that out? (already scoured google..hard) but it's good I wish I had the ability to put the effects on some switches? kinda pointless if I have to keep going to change it :/ but still fun to have. but I got a good deal I think 50 bucks for this one and I immediatly knew I got a good deal when I heard it

Re: Can I have some opinions about VOX

Love the AC15 and AC30.
The AC30 is a fantastic amp clean, dirty, or with pedals.
I went with a DRRI when I A/B'd the fender and vox. The vox was heavy and I'm not gigging but I do lug my gear out to play with others semi-regularly.

I owned a night train for a while, too bright in bright mode, too thick and no controls in thick mode, and it was cool if you want it to really HONK when you hit some chords but I think the amp lacks smoothness, it's rather unrefined.
The AC15 is less honky, smoother, and while it doesn't have as much gain, the night train is never what I'd recommend for lots of gain anyways.

Re: Can I have some opinions about VOX

After lookin around I seen some of these amps come with pedals, i guess it's a simple on off switch in a pedal? I wonder if I could use that to switch on/off the effects bypass?

I have one of those SSC55s in that finish for sale on my local Craigslist. You want it?

Re: Can I have some opinions about VOX

I have two AC30s with Celestion Blues. Have played a Valvetronix 120 before also. Get a Vox that is before (I think) 2008 or 2006? That's when the cabinets were made of Birch. Now they are some kind of press board or something. Otherwise, get a handwired version. Those still have Birch cabinets.

Re: Can I have some opinions about VOX

I got an AC30C2. It's just plain and simple the definition of my sound, to me.
