Can I Mix These? APS-1 + Antiquity

Did some recent Ebay shopping for some vintage style strat pickups. I didn't win all that I wanted but here's what I came up with:

1 each: APS-1 alnico pro II standard winding. Measures 6.17K
1 each: APS-1 alnico pro II RW/RP. Measures 6.20K
1 each: Antiquity I Custom Bridge. Measures 10.00K

Can these two types of pickups be used together succesfuly? Isn't the Antiquity series wound differently than the APS-1?

What about sound? Will the increased mids of the Ant Custom Bridge work well with the smoother sound of the A2 magnets in the APS-1, or will it be too glassy?

They are going in an alder bodied, rosewood neck guitar of my own design. Any help would be great. Thanks, RD.

this should make a great set, but yes, the Antiquities are wound differently.

someone else will have to tell you how to solve that problem - those phase issues always confuse me :smack:

but APSs are my favorites in strats

Here's what to try: hold the poles of your bridge pickup against the poles of your middle pickup and see if they repel or attract. If they attract, wire the guitar normally and keep your fingers crossed.

If they repel, install the middle pickup as the neck pickup and the neck pickup as the middle pickup and wire those two black to ground and white to the switch.

Wire the bridge pickup white to ground and black to the switch.

Should work...but keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks for the replies. Thats the kind of easy to understand directions I was looking for.

Lew, the mid pu and the Ant bridge pu do repel each other, so I'll wire them as you suggested. I see in your equiptment listing that you use the Ant custom bridge with 2 Surfers pups. Have you ever tried it with APS-1 pups? I really like the sound of the A2 magnets in the Seth Lovers I use, so I thought I would try them in my home built that uses a hardtail strat type of set up. I'll try to put them in latter today and let you know how turns out. Thanks, RD.

Nope...haven't tried it with the APS-1 pickups. I've been using a Twnagbanger in that guitar and like it alot. I have to say that I like the Antiquity I Texas Hot Custom Bridge a little more though...in fact, it's my favorite Strat bridge pickup that I've ever used. Good luck!:)
