Can I plug an ukulele into my amps?

I've been thinking about buying a cool little ukulele (it has a pickup too), but I was wondering if I can use my guitar amps with it, if I wanted to, like a regular guitar?

LMAO, Rich. I love that image.

A certain famous guitar player plugged a keyboard in to his Marshall stack back in the early 80's......"Sunday Afternoon In the Park", "One Foot Out The Door", "And The Cradle Will Rock". Just a few examples of such wild experimentations.

I have a 6 string Baritone Uke with a fishman prefix pup. Extremely versatile when I plug it in...

If I finger pick, it retains a very uke-like sound.

If I use a thin pick, it sounds like a nylon stinged classical guitar

If I use my regular, thick, rigid (1.14mm) pick, It sounds like a hollowbody electric.

Re: Can I plug an ukulele into my amps?

If you plug into a guitar amp, it won't sound much like a ukulele, but it could be a very cool sound. To capture the true acoustic sound of the instrument, you'd be better off going into a "hi fi" amplifier that gives you plenty of clean headroom. An acoustic guitar amp like an SWR California Blonde, Fishman Loudbox, or an AER would be ideal.

You might also think about going into a preamp like a D-TAR Equinox or even Mama Bear to remove the "artifacts" from the pickup and make it sound more like the acoustic sound of the instrument.

Best of luck.

Cool, thanks for your answers, looks like I'll be buying this thing then, it has a different vibe than a guitar, I like it alot...I might have a easier time playing this than guitars, due to only 4 strings and "easier" chords.

Thank you for your advice, Evan. I have heard lots of good stuff about the Mama Bear etc. but I am not sure those products are available here ???

Hmm, I can't find anything on the webpage, but I'll look into it myself then.

FIDDY ONE FIDDY!

And throw a dimebucker in it too

:)

:laugh2:

No, nothing like that..Just going for kinda "exotic" sounds with the ukulele.. It's a bit cooler than playing guitar because less people play ukulele's, and the vibe is different :laugh2:

Go right into the board and out the PA. Basically you want a hi-fi type of set-up like Evan said. But don't be afraid to experiment with guitar amps too.

Re: Can I plug an ukulele into my amps?

don't forget to install your whammy bar on it too!

I remember seeing a comedian playing Purple Haze on a uke a while ago. Sounded pretty killer too... :burnout:
