Can I use a stereo jack instead of a mono jack?

what's up guys?

So I'm wiring up the last part of my guitar, the jack. And I opened it, and I realized it's a stereo jack. I should use a mono jack, I know. But will a stereo jack work? If so, how do I wire it?

Thanks!

Absolutely. Its a nice "mod". Gives you a little more ground connection.

Use the red and green arrow for ground, and the blue arrow for "hot".

Edit: Examine the terminals carefully so that you get the right connections. Each lug should be opposite the terminal. The longest one is the hot.

yeah, it'll work. Basically you'll just wire it up normal. Cept theres that other little lug that connects to the second contact of a stereo cord. So just wire that up to connect to ground, Just runn a short jumper from that lug to the actual ground (sleeve) lug, an you'll be fine.

Or if ya wanted to do something Kinda kool. Ya could wire the guitar up so One pickup goes to the Tip contact, and the other Goes to the second stereo tip contact. And then use a Y cord, so you could send each pickup to they're own amp, or run em through an a/b box so Instead of flickin a switch on yer guitar to change pickups, You just stomp the a/b box. I did that once, It SEEMED way more kool than it actually was though. haha. Turns out its just kinda annoying. But you might like it more than I did.

Thank you very very much Artie! I saw your reply to Joelap from like 2005, and you referenced that same picture, but the picture didn't show up.

Regardless, thank you very much!

Low, that is a cool idea. Unfortunately, I just mailed off my only good amp today. So it's of no use to me. But thank you very much! I will keep that in mind for a project some day! :)
