Can Mini Humbuckers fit into P90 Dogear mounting holes

Hello,

I have an Epiphone Rivera that has P90 Dogear pickups and I was wanting to replace the bridge pickup with a Mini Humbucker. My question is can Mini Humbuckers fit into a DogEar P90 pickup mount?

Re: Can Mini Humbuckers fit into P90 Dogear mounting holes

This is a hard one. Dogears sit mostly above the guitars surface with a very shallow rout. The p90 is in fact the shape routed for Gibsons with minis, but the pickups of course have a surround.

There are several issues
1 The rout will be too shallow to fit the height screws, as the dogear has its attachment outside the rout
2 There may well not be enough space under the strings to get the pickup screwed down far enough. P90's are a thinner overall pickup.
3 You will most likely have 2 visible holes and maybe some paint scuff from the dogear mounting which will be visible

Is it the pickup height I should be worried about? And is the height of rout is a concern also? Because it's mostly the bridge pickup I want to replace. I noticed on the bridge pickup there is a wooden piece that holds the pickup in place. I've seen mini humbuckers put in dog ear type covers on archtop guitars. I don't know what those are called.

You might find luck at allparts or similar for odd covers. But its also the mounting method that will be an issue......that and how deep the rout is. The vintage accurate rout is only 3/8" deep

I found p90s on seymour duncan custom shop that have the wiring of a humbucker but they are in the shape of a p90 dogear pickup. I might just go with those
