Can preamps be used on a combo?

Re: Can preamps be used on a combo?

guitar amp = preamp + power amp + speaker

so your marshall combo has preamp + power amp + speaker. so your marshall doesn't need another preamp but there is no reason why you can't use two preamp in series.

if your marshall combo head has a FX loop, connect the Peavey preamp to the RETURN of the FX loop, not to the guitar input of Marshall combo. In that way, you can bypass the preamp of marshall.

Cheers

Re: Can preamps be used on a combo?

thanks for the help its highly appreciated. im new in this area and im unsure that its safe for my amp. My marshall does have an fx loop. Its a 50watt amp and im not sure if this is to important but the pre has a 80hz low-cut switch, should i worry about this and what importance does it play?

Re: Can preamps be used on a combo?

I would do two things if I were you...

#1. Email Marshall and see what they say. I'd not mess with it if I really liked my amp. Might blow it up.

#2. Please cease and desist from posting the same question in 4 different sections of the board. It is not only bad manners, it sucks much needed bandwidth for no reason.

Thanks,

The Management

An 80hz low-cut switch is in the EQ section. Or at least it should be.
