Cant get Bridge Pickup higher

I'm having a but of trouble with my SSS Strat.... I can't seem to raise the Bridge pickup any higher past mid-way... Its definitely not high enough. I'm turning the screw but it seems to keep dropping back down / won't go any higher... I noticed under the pickguard that I have those little rubber grommets instead of springs and these have become all squished between the screw and pickup mounting ear... Any tips on how to get the pickup higher ? Shall I swap the mashed up rubber washers for springs instead ?

Any tips to straighten them up? They're sitting a bit wonky in the scratchplate... particularly the neck pu

You could always cut the rubber in half. It will buy you a little more height.

Do the screws you are using have thread all the way to the top of them? The only other reason I can see that the pickup would "drop down" after you raised it is that you passed up the screw thread on the screw OR the threads in pickup itself are stripped. I hate the rubber sleeves. I always replace them with springs. You can cut springs shorter if they are keeping you from raising the pickup any higher.
