Cant get my amp out of standby

My peavey 5150 powers up but the standby switch isnt working. Earlier today i cranked up my amp. After a while, when I would bend it sounded strange and then the sound stopped. The light by the standby switch isnt working either. Anybody have any ideas what exactly is wrong? I checked the tubes and they appear fine.

Forgot to add that electricity(?)would flicker under the switch ever once in a while when the switched still worked. Im not sure if thats normal.

My only guess, and I don't know much about circuitry anyways, is that it's just a bad switch and it's screwing up the rest of the circuit. Someone else will probably have better guesses though.

I'll go with this guess also...especially if the switch was doing some arcing in the past.

Open up the amp, and see what the connection to the switch is doing. It could be as simple as a loose wire dangling around the pole......which is why it's flickering.

On my refrigerator, the light switch was acting up. I'm glad I just examined it, because I didn't even need a new one. I bent a piece of metal with tweezers, and it's just like new again.
