Can't get through to the Custom Shop

Just curious. I've left three messages at the Custom Shop with MJ, and I have yet to hear back from the custom shop. Does anybody know how to go about purchasing some custom shop pick ups. I'm at a dead end here.

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

How long has it been since you left the first message?

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

The best way I've found is to join the forum and complain about it.

No, wait, what I did is join the forum and start talking to the knowledgeable members (of course that excludes me) about how to improve my tone. I even saved some money in the process when I learned about magnet swapping, tube rolling, pickup height and screw adjustments.

I might have even made a couple friends in the process.

Um... Cool. It's been three week's officially. Not really complaining, just posting to see if some of you "experienced" duncan peeps could point me in the right direction. I figured since it was the holiday season, they might be really busy. Either way, I still want to purchase my pick ups. And I really want a pair wound by MJ.

the best thing to do is leave a message with your contact info ... it sounds like that's what you did

However, there is almost always a similar thread every year at this time, since it's just before the Winter NAMM show, and they are usually busy getting everything ready for the show.

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

I always e-mail MJ when I need to talk to her. It's never taken more than a week for me to hear back from her, and usually much more quickly. I agree that three weeks is probably a bit long not to hear back; I don't know what her schedule is with winter NAMM an such, but if she can't check her messages I would think SD would have SOMEONE do it.

Here is her e-mail address, give that a try. Don't give up on her....and welcome to the forum.

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

From Thanksgiving until the end of January is pretty much all-out crazy time for Duncan in terms of meeting demand, keeping retailers supplied, and prepping for NAMM. They're probably really backed up right now.

The forum is a good avenue, as is email.

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

Welcome to the forum!

I'm assuming you left them by phone? MJ always answered the messages that I left at the custom shop number. She's also pretty good with email replies. As others have stated, it's could be due to NAMM prep.

Just know this, the wait is well worth it. What are you looking to get anyways? I've been thinking about a custom phat cat or staple, but I guess it'll have to wait until after NAMM.

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

Awesome, I was thinking the same thing. Being x-mas time, and the NAMM show too. Thanks for the info you all, and I am stoked to be on the SD forum. I own 6 les paul custom shop guitars, and have been playing for 17 years. Just put my first SD pickup in one month ago, and I'm officially addicted. I've been missing out on awesome tone for a long time. That's why I was inquiring about the custom shop pick ups. Appreciate all the feedback, minus the mister wizzy cool guy reply. Look forward to chatting with you all. I will be emailing her immediately.

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

I'm not sure what the hold-up was, but I called her today and spoke with her about an order.

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

Welcome aboard man!

So come on, what are you gonna order? We need to know, you know. :D
And what Duncan pickup did you try that made you "officially addicted"?
These kind of stories are cool.

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

I ordered a "Brobucker", and a "S-Deco". One is for my les paul custom silverburst, and the other is for my Honeyburst standard. The first SD pup I purchased was the sh-5 duncan custom. Put her in a white les paul custom classic, with ebony fretboard. Brought this les paul to life, and brought a whole new dimension to picking dynamics that I hadn't experienced before with my 498's, burstbuckers's, etc. Don't get me wrong, I really do enjoy Gibson pups. But they do not have the characteristic's that SD pups have IMO. Vise versa. I was blown away by the sound of the sh-5. It is definitely one "tough" sounding pup. The following week I ordered two JB's, a 59 (neck), and two sh-2 jazz (neck) pups. Installed them myself, and I've been swapping them in and out between my Les Pauls over the last 3-4 weeks. Each model is absolutely brilliant. Had I known that SD was going to create the Liberator, I probably would of waited a month or two before getting crazy with my soldering gun. Either way, I'm fired up on the pups. I am eager to get my custom shop pups from MJ too.

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

If you're going to keep in the custom shop state of mind with that many LP's, you have got to try the CS Jimmy Page set. I've never been a fan of low output pickups, but good god those things sound fabulous in a heavy hunk of wood!

Re: Can't get through to the Custom Shop

Didn't know it existed. I'll have to look into it.

If I ever get brave enough to cough up the cash to buy an LP, that page set will be shortly after. A good friend has an 06 59 reissue with that set in it and it trumps nearly every LP I've heard up close and personal.
