im in the market for a rhoads v and im fairly picky so heres what i've been able to come up with for options.
ideally id like something with : ebony fingerboard / 24 frets / floyd rose ( or similarly routed so i could drop my own in ) and rear routed controls, neck through. the first thing id be willing to give up is the rear routed controls as i will probably be refinishing it anyway and it wouldnt take very much to change this.
now obviously the easiest way to get all of this on one guitar is go through the jackson custom shop but two of my favorite jackson players had switched due to issues with fender buying them out. now i played a RR5 that is post-fender and didnt have any QC issues but im not that serious of an artist and hadnt played any post-fender jacksons enough to notice any sort of change. the downside of this is obviously the cost and time. id really like to be jamming on it before the new year. im also currently putting together a rack and a guitar like this would definately slow that down
..which brings me to my next option!
buying a pre-fender jackson RR1 and removing the fingerboard to put a 24 fret fingerboard in place. the controls would still be front loaded and thats nothing that i couldnt deal with if it started to bug me too terribly. while im not the best luthier i've changed out the fingerboard on two of my other guitars with no problem.
now i looked up the models quite a bit but didnt find anything that would get me close to ideal..so i came to this huge guitar knowledge bank that is the SD forums for your help :] thanks in advance guys.
