Caps

can i replace the cap on the tone control in my guitar with one that is much larger (in size, not value).

the old one is green and says 2A333K. it came stock in the guitar (H-S-H, 1 vol, 1 tone, 5way) it is about 1/3 the physical size of the new one

the new one is an orange drop cap (i believe, its big an orange) and it has on it 473J 0313, and above that is 715P200V. Even though it is physically bigger, can i use it in my guitar circuit? id ahve to cut down the leads alot (they are like 2 inches long), but can i use it?

Re: Caps

yeah, no problem ... the leads are bendable (so you can "lay it down"), and you snip the excess off

solder carefully
good luck

Re: Caps

it should work even better than the other one. i think it is a different value, but i am not sure how the green ones are marked

Re: Caps

ill try it out, hopefully itll produce better tone? the old cap ive had in there since i bought the guitar, switched the pups, replaced a pot, etc. will better tone be on the horizen? i can always switch back, right?>

Re: Caps

whats a mallory cap?

Great caps...Myself and alot of amp modders use the Mallory 150 series caps in their vintage Fender and Marshall amp mods and their boutique amps...

www.hoffmanamps.com is where I get my Mallorys from..I've been buying stuff from Doug for many years..

Re: Caps

well i made the swap around noon, restrung it after lunch, and plugged in for the first time 30 minutes ago (8pm).

i really like the new cap. it seems to smooth it out a bit, takes some of the sharp edges out. i still get the gritty bluesy tone, but its just a bit cleaner, crisper, and smoother. i really like it. its def. what im looking for, it isnt a huge change at all (u have to listen for it) but its there, and i like it, and if it 2 months i dont, ill reswap. im glad i have anohter one for any future guitar i get.

thanks to all who helped
