Carvin 4x12 speaker questions..

Anyone familiar with Carvin's 4x12 that went with the MTS amps? Has 4 of their "british series" speakers in it. I have one and cant say I dislike it in any way. But Im curious about other speakers. Green backs and vin 30s are legendary. IIRC the Brit series are supposed to be similar to vin 30s. Can anyone confirm? Here is what I have to let you know what I have experience with.
Carvin 4x12 as noted above
Splawn 4x12 with their small block speakers.
Avatar 2x12 with celestion 70s (?) in it. Dont recall the model right now, but they were popular years ago.

I replaced the stock speaker in my PV classic 30 with a Private Jack and that changed things greatly.

So, The Carvin cab in my opinion seems very well made, and could be a good base for change. First, for those with experience with those british series speakers, do I need to change?? If the benefit would be great, should I do a 2 vin 30 2 greenback layout for a great rock tone or??

Im wide open here ... What say you?

Re: Carvin 4x12 speaker questions..

I used a Carvin XV-212 for years with a pair of "British Speakers". They were made to sound like Vin 30's and they sound great, no need for a change.

Thats what I thought. curiousity gets the best of me.. Just hear so much about how good a green back, vin 30 combo sounds..

Re: Carvin 4x12 speaker questions..

I have an 80's Carvin 4x12 that came loaded with Celestion 12M-70's. The thing is built like a tank. No fabric covering the speakers, rather a steel grate. I like the way the speakers sound, what some think of as ice pick, I think of as cutting through the mix.

Re: Carvin 4x12 speaker questions..

I have used a pair of vintage 16ohm paralleled G12M-70's for years in a 2 x 12 cabinet as a go-to for Drop + standard , All chores and Easy to tote to studio.
Seems to me it's easier to push some rippin' tone out of the 2 ~They're so capable . The other application I use them for is 4 in a bottom for a stack config. with jbl's, greenies , side~w , whatever on top (or side ) . There are still some fans of the 70's or gauss for recording on 10 (literally) seldom blow Any : )

I've got a Carvin V3 cab with Eminence speakers in it. At any rate it's ply and not MDF and I prefer it to most. Plus they can be had 2nd hand for a cheap deal.

Re: Carvin 4x12 speaker questions..

Yeah, seems made very well and IIRC supposed to be quality build. So, I was just wondering if I was missing something with the speakers. apparently not..
