Carvin...and UK dealers

Ok, like them or not, Carvin have a pretty impressive range of custom options which look good value for money, especially to us Brits what with exchange rate etc. So I price up a guitar I would like and it comes to $998 which is £570.

I find out I have to place an international order through a UK dealer, so I get them to do me a quote and they come back with £999! I tried a couple of dealers and they were around the same figure. Now, they add tax & shipping etc which would bump it up, but the UK tax added brings it to £670, are they saying that shipping and import tax is £320? I don't think so.

So what's the deal? Why is the UK mark up so high? Do Carvin alter their prices for international orders? What seemed like an attractive deal has now turned into an overpriced no-hoper.

Just a little rant....

last time I tried to send a cymbal that I sold on ebay that weighed less than 10lbs they wanted $150 for shipping to the UK. It has something to do with UK customs and imports, etc.

I know shipping can be pricey, but £350 for shipping and import tax? That's like $570! I got a guitar from the States and that cost me about £180 in shiiping and import tax.
