Caswell Amplification

Anyone tried or own a Tim Caswell's Number 39 Amp? Which is based of the S.I.R. Marshall 1959 Super Lead Plexi Tremolo with the Tim Caswell Mod played by Slash and George Lynch.

Re: Caswell Amplification

Tim, by all reports makes a great amp but it's not so great on the business end of running a business so his amps are hard to get...I doubt you'll find any Caswell owners on this forum.

^^^^^^^^

I read many articles about the SIR 39 amp, and followed him when he started making his own amp. You won't find many people at all that own his amp, especially on this board.

If anything, the recent Marshall AFD100 will get you the tone- though they've become rare there are more people that have played them than a Caswell

Re: Caswell Amplification

I've played the Caswell motorized #39 and I wasn't impressed at all. It's insanely loud, and it has waaaaaaaaay more gain than anyone would ever want. It also doesn't clean up well with the guitar volume knob and is rather fuzzy / grainy. Overall not even close to worth the $4700 they demand.

OTOH he'll do the #39 / George Lynch mod to any 1987/1959/2204/2203 for $650 last I checked which is a much better deal. If I remember correctly the modded amp has a foot-switchable clean / gain, but I don't remember if you can switch between one extra gain stage (#39) or two (Lynch).
