CC and PG similar?

Hey all. I was thinking about swapping out the C3 in my Strat to a lower output pickup. I've already got enough gain from my 5150, but i want the amp to breath more, and not sound as compressed. Is the PG similar to a CC/C3? I love the mids..Or should I go with a A3 '59?

the pg uses an alnico II mag so it isnt overly bright, but it does have a strong top end with powerful mids, output is similar to a 59. there are some similaritys to a cc but the cc pushes much harder than the pg and has more upper mids. i love a pg in a strat

I tried an A2 in a '59 once. It reminded me of the CC, but the mids weren't as exagerated. Maybe a Seth Lover would be in the ballpark?

I've used both pickups...

The CC has more mids, more output, and is fuller sounding in it's lower mids and has less note articulation..

The PG is brighter overall, the mids are more scooped, the PG's mids crunch and are pretty out front but in a higher midrange way. This pickup has better clarity of notes and isn't quite as ballsy in the lows..Both are great, but they are also very different.

I think for what you are describing a 59' might be the ticket. I haven't had a 59' in over a year, but do remember the highs being slightly more pronounced than I prefer. So a 59 with an A3 or an A4 may be just the ticket for you.

I just bought a 59' neck from kevlar, and I'm seriously thinking about putting my A4 mag in it and using it in the bridge of my Alvarez Scoop.
