CC nickel plate cover

I'm digg'in the tone of my custom custom in the bridge of my strat, but it seems to be very tight in there. More so then the other pups I've tried. I'm thinking it's because of the nickel plate cover, although I'm not really sure. I was wondering if the nickel cover could be taken off without hurting the pup, tone, or appearance?

Custom Cusotm is tight ? huh, are you sure it's not Custom or Custom 5 ?
I don't think that the cover would change the tightness of the pup, not at least to that direction (tighten it more).
