My long overdue swap is finally here. The beloved CC is out and the '78 is in. I've only had time to do a demo with my POD XT. The real test with the Mesa Ace won't come until Wednesday but the difference (and the similarity) is clear already.
The trademark CC mid peak is defintely tamped down but the mids are still strong overall. The low end respnse seems similar and the highs are a little brighter but still not BRIGHT (which is a good thing). Pinch harmoics seem to fly off a little easier as well. As for which is more compressed, can't tell yet, the POD seems to compress everything a little all the time. It will be much more apparent with the toob amp at stage levels Wednesday.
I have to say the '78 and the APH2 in the neck go together wonderfully - even better than the CC and the APH combo I just had which was fun but there was a bigger jump between positions in tonality.
