I was told that even though it is a 14K it has a very sweet classic tone?
It does. It has this nice openness to it, almost PAFish but not quite. Enough to get a sweet classic tone but still enough power to punch hard and be rude when warranted.

erik does the CC have that eddie "mojo"?
I have a high order 10K maximus that is real good and the dimarzio V hot paf'
but neither really get that true edward vanhalen tone?
maybe it is my chops that are not up to the task?
i guess when it comes to a genius like EVH there is much more than just a pu?
there is one guy who plays a 5150 and a kramer striker that has a 59 loaded in it and he gets THE tone?

Re: CC output?

It gets ya in the ballpark. In the right guitar (alder or ash strat body) it's right at home for doing EVH stuff. Heck, he used it himself on stuff, I think Fair Warning album and Panama are the CC and Judgement Day is for sure.

I've been playing for 20 years and have tried to get his tone for more than half of them. After a while (early on), I realized it's not going to happen. I'm not him, I don't have his fingers nor his talent. Plus I was playing the wrong gear...LOL. I had a 5150 but it still sounded like me. I have a Marshall and you guessed it, it still sounds like me. The closest I have gotten to the classic (VH1 and VHII) tone after all these years is the DiMarzio PAF in my homemade frankenstrat now combined with my Marshall. The CC is good for everything else.

So yeah, there's more than the pickup involved.

Re: CC output?

A lot of it is in how and where and what angle you hit the strings. And with what.

A different pick or hitting the string in a different spot at a different angle a little harder or softer makes all the difference and is what makes two guys sound totally different playing through same guitar, same rig.

Re: CC output?

The CC is one of my very favorite humbuckers. The Custom, Custom Custom and Custom 5 are all the exact same pickup but each has a differant magnet. The Custom Custom uses alnico 2 so it has softer bass, softer treble and more mids than the other two. The output seems a little less too.

Even though the CC is a 14.4K pickup it's not really that much louder than the 8.2K 59B. I have three Strats with a single bridge humbucker: one with 59TB, one with Custom TB and one with Custom Custom TB.

In terms of output, the Custom is loudest and the 59TB is the least loud and the Custom Custom is in between, but not that much louder than the 59TB...just a little.

But the tone is warmer, fuller and thicker than the 59TB.

My Strat with the Custom Custom is the one I play the most.
