CC with free floating floyd guitar

I have a warmoth body (alder) routed for recessed schaller floyd rose (I like the compactness of this one verses the OFR)

and a rosewood/maple neck with a graphtec nut. I wanted a guitar that I could pull up on the trem to raise pitch.

I do hear a slight lose of tone when a FR is not resting on the body (free Floating).

I really like the voicing of the Custom family of pickups. I have at C5 in a heritage LP and wow! It is awesome.

I have purchased a used CC for this set up to emphasis the loss of mids with the trem set up this way.

What do you guys think?

If you don't like my analysis, what then is the best Duncan to compensate for the tone loss in this set up.

I want a good medium output pup to do mostly heavy stuff

Thanks

Re: CC with free floating floyd guitar

I think it sounds like a very good possible idea. If the CC dosent work out for you just cange the magnet so it will become a C5 or custom. The CC will be thicker than the C5. It may just do the trick for you.

Re: CC with free floating floyd guitar

i have tried the CC in my floyd rose equipped guitar which has a non floating floyd rose. While it is a warm pickup.........i didn't like it for two reasons: a lack of bass frequencies(which was maybe accentuated by the FR) and the very very prominent mids which gave the pickup a "one dimensional" very dense sound that can get pretty annoying.

Re: CC with free floating floyd guitar

I tried the Custom Cusom in a floating Floyd guitar and didn't care for it. The CC isn't known for having a lot of bass, are neither are floating Floyds. Mix them together, and it sounded too weak to me. I do like the Custom (not CC) with floating Floyds. Another good option would be one of the Parallel Axis trembuckers (I really like the Blues Saraceno model).

Thanks for the replies so far!

I looked at the tone wizard and it recommended the C5 for rosewood fretboard and the CC for a MAPLE fretboard.

Maybe I'll be swapping out magnet for a Alnico 5 in the end because I have a rosewood board neck.

Where can you get good quality magnets?

If I don't like the mushiness of a A2 mag, how would a A3 or A4 change the tone? I may try these before I go to a A5 magnet.
