And you probably know this feeling ; I can't wait !
So tell me what you think of those speakers , damnit !

I already find Bob Savage clips and from V30 G12t75 and Classic Lead , I already prefer the CL witch is a good start , what about you ?

Quote : yo, check out Bob Savage's Celestion sound clips of the Classic Lead 80, Greenback, G12H30, G12T-75 and Vintage 30 under Shiva in the Amplifier demo area. Hearing is believing.

Re: Celestion Classic Lead ?

I think the 80 on those clips is very modern and tight (re: stiff?) not in a bad way but in a way that is almost true to how CELESTION describs the speakers. They have a good low end.

An offshoot of that speaker that I feel sounds a tad browner is the Mesa C90.

I have never heard a well broken in 80, so I'd like to see.

I have NEVER tried the V30 / 80 combo that bogner likes so much. I am dying to try it. I hear it does wonders for bass response in open back cabs. You get some smooth cutting mids from the V30s and the 80s give you tightness and bottom along with some beef in the lower mids.

I am not a uge 75s fan. They are a tad hi fi and a tad compressed when gained up. I have never found great clips of the G12H, but owning a 4x12, I can tell you they have a nice crunch along with a good tightness. They wold go well with a 80 I imagine.

Re: Celestion Classic Lead ?

I don't prefer them over 75s. They are a little too neutral and clean for me compared to most Celestions. It's a tight speaker..a little "modern" or "hi-fi". The least "british" sounding.

However I do prefer them over V30s. V30s just have a nasal and grating quality to them I don't care for at all.

Diffeent strokes..

Re: Celestion Classic Lead ?

I don't like V30s a lot , too middy and compressed when cranked , I like to hear the "clonk" of my Jazz and Demon 8 pickups .

Re: Celestion Classic Lead ?

Classic Lead 80s are amazing. My Bogner rig consists of a Bogner 4x12'' with a mix of V30s and CL80s. CL80s are huge, crunchy, articulate and tight speakers. They have a truly big sound and handle overdrive and cleans extremely well. People generally describe them as very focused sounding speakers, you won't have to worry about them flubbing out like some others (namely Greenbacks).

Vintage 30s are speakers that get a bad rap because they need certain amps to really shine. They exhibit very strong high mid characteristics that can be overkill with certain amps. That's where all the "honky and nasally" type adjectives come in.
