Tonus Maximus Pacificas
I just got my 'British' G12h yesterday, from Ebay. This speaker replaced my 30w weber blue dog. This morning I put it in my Marshall 1960a 412, but wired it directly to the speaker input, with no other speakers active. It looks like new, and it may need a little break in time - not sure.
At first note, it sounded a little bit muffled, compared to my greenbacks, which are very much midrange focussed. The G12h lower notes sound more natural and looser when compared to greenback - wheras the greenback has a solid, tight bottom end. It is pretty smooth and balanced, still keeping that Celestion style tone, and recreating the Marshall sound pretty well. It seems to compress pretty nicely as I give it more juce.
After playing through it a while, I liked it a little more than I did at first - I just had to adjust to the different sound attributes of it. Then :13: I put all 4 speaker in the circuit - including 2 greenbacks and 1 weber 50w blue dog. I like the addition to this combo. The G12h gave the cabinet a little more punch. It is a very nice compliment to the other speakers. I still get the nice mid snarl from the other 3 speakers and the added bass of the G12h gives the cabinet a little more depth/complexity.
I am pretty sure that I would like this speaker for an open back cabinet too.
I might get another one and replace the 50w blue dog.
