Has someone some infos on that speaker. My Engl Screamer 50 combo (first edition) came with this speaker and I'm not too happy with it. Cleans are not bad but sound tends to be confuse under high gain situation and I have the intuition that it comes from this speaker. Does someone own this combo and have the same problem?. I have an eye on the Century to replace it. So what do you recommend?

Re: Celestion G12K85

I have a G12k-85 in my bassman 2x12 cab. It has a real smooth sound. I've never really had high gain issues with it, but when I had it in a small 1x12 ported cab, it would fart out real bad with high gain and low notes, but I always attributed that to the cab. I've run several different amps into the 2x12 cab and it has never had a problem. It might not be working in that cab you have. The Century speakers are getting good reviews. I would probably go for the Century Vintage, over the regular Century.

Thanks Peterku. Good advice since I cannot imagine what could give the Century. Do you think the century vintage will be enough, I mean 60 Watts speaker for a 50 Watts combo. And believe it's loud. Even on rehearsal with the drummer hitting his drum as if he wanted to destroy it, the master never exceeds the half of the max.

Ive used a Rivera ported cab with G12K85s with a power amp and pod...AWESOME! I wasnt as thrilled with it on a guitar amp though. Depends on your use. Peace

It would mean that's a good speaker to emulate some Amp/cabs with not so much character on its own. I just use analogic effect pedals with it and don't intend to use a pod or something like that.
