Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

Re: Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

I was looking for reviews of the Fullback as well .
I understood though that 15 inch speakers are a bit slower in response than 12 inch ,
with a fuller voice witch is the good point .
Then if you play fast things 12 inch could be a better choice ?

Re: Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

I think the slow response will be cool for some of the classic rock stuff I do. I would also love to hear it with a bit of hard rock and metal.

In theory yes is you are playing faster music you want a faster response in your speakers. Keep in mind there are exceptions to every rule. Dime used 15s.

Re: Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

I use 15" speakers mixed with 12". I love them. I have a Big Ben and the Warehouse 15". Neither are slow or sloppy.

Re: Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

I am moving the Celestions in my Ampeg V4 to a 4x12 Fender cab. I am seriously thinking about making the Ampeg a 2x15.

Re: Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

I have the Ampeg VL503 with KT88 gold lion , into a marshall cab with 4 Classic leads witch is a bit too much for the 75 watts of the VL .
Good enough but if the Full back is even better I would make a 1 or 2 Fullback cab .

Re: Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

I have two of the G15V-100 Fullbacks on the way. I have to wait a couple of weeks because the 16 ohms haven't hit the street yet. I am going to pull the speakers from my Fender FM 412 cab and put in the Fullbacks. It is a pretty nice cab, all plywood with decent hardware and coasters. My plan is to cut out the existing 4x12 baffle and put in a new 3/4 inch pine baffle for the 15s. I mocked out the cab and it will hold the 2x15s nicely. My question is should I put in a port? I know a lot of bass cabs with 15s have them but I am guessing that is for the "thump" a bass makes. Any thoughts? I have plenty of room.

Anymore news about the Fullback ?

The 8 ohms are on the streets. The 16 ohms are due out in a couple of weeks. There is not too much info and I haven't seen any clips because these speakers are so new.

Re: Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

Securb, you should put one of those in your Fender Excelsior. IMO, the only weak link in the brown Excelsior is the speaker.

Bass cabs are ported to prevent them farting out, and an incorrectly designed port can be worse than no port at all. I'd try the cab without porting first, and then look into designing a correct port given speaker excursion and cab volume if you end up needing one. Dime used Randall 2x15s along with 4x12s, and I don't know if those 2x15s were ported.

Edit: A bit of research shows that Randall Warhead 2x15s are ported. Is the Fender 4x12 straight or slant-front? Warhead 2x15s are straight-front, and I'd guess part of that is due to the extra difficulty in designing a ported, slanted cabinet.

The current baffle is slanted but that is coming out and a flat baffle is going in. The Warhead has 6 ports a bit excessive in my book. The Vadar 2x15 has two ports. I might lean a bit more towards that design.

They are a 100 watts and part of the charm of the Excelsior is the speaker breakup. I don't think 13 watts is enough to push this speaker to where I want it. When the DSL was in the shop I had the Excelsior running through the Marshall 4x12. It sounded great and loud but you didn't get that same breakup the stock speaker gives you. When I added a boost it was party on!

Re: Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

I finally got the Fullback. I couldnt wait for the 16 ohm so I got a single 8 ohm. I have a cab being built for it right now that should be delivered this week. I think this will work better in the long run. I can use it by itself with the Micro Terror, side by side with the 4x12 or 2x12 with the JCM 2000. It will also make a cool extension speaker for my Fender Quad Reverb.

This is the cab I got to go with it. It is pretty cool you can go open or closed back with it.

Re: Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

Way cool. Please provide a tone report when ready.

I am reviewing both the speaker and the cab for TMRZoo.com so I am going to take them through a varriety of amps from the Tiny Terror, 100w DSL, Excelsior, Fender 100w and a 200w Randell SS. I will post both reviews here when I am done. So far with the Tiny Terror the amp sounds cool as hell. Lots of bottom with no sacrifice to the highs. Very full in your face mid tones.

Re: Celestion G15V-100 Fullback

I got one. I replaced an Eminence Big Ben in my custom 2x12/1x15. The fullback sounds great. Almost like a wider sounding greenback. Really blends well with the g12-65s I have in the cab as well.

That is the vibe I am going for. I haven't tried it with the Marshall 2x12 yet but that is the plan in the long run. I finally get to take it through the paces a bit today. Tomorrow I will start really testing the speaker out and writing the review. So far at low volumes with the Micro Terror it sounds fantastic.
