Can anyone with some first hand experience tell me what these sound like and where applications they are good for/not good for? If you've read my other thread you'll know that im planning on buying up old used marshall cabs and doing a bit of work on them including speaker replacement and id like to know what some of celestions less well known speakers are like?

Re: Celestion Seventy 80's

I've got the seventy 80's in my Randall RG100SC, and they're pretty good speakers, then again I'm not sure I've heard very many other speakers, and if I have I wouldn't recognize them. but anyway from what I read about the 70-80's, they have scooped mids....

Re: Celestion Seventy 80's

I'm very interested about these speakers too since I have 2 of them in my Randall. (which functions as a cab now)
I hear them as pretty bright speakers that still have some warmth to them. I think the Bass response could be better.

Traynor, uses them in their YCV series amps. I love the one in my Traynor YCV-40. I had another Traynor with a Vintage 30 in it, and I hated it's tone. I find the Seventy 80, to be a very balanced speaker.

Scooped mids? According to Celestion the 70-80's have have a huge amount of mids.
