Ceramic magnets quieter?

Hi all,

I play in REALLY high EMF environments, near a bunch of transformers. Regular HB pickups pick this us, kind of like a zillion fluorescent lights. I had a CC that was REALLY bad for picking this up. People say (Warren Lee Lynch and others) that ceramics are quieter than others.

Does anyone have experience with the Custom, for example, and whether it is quiet in high gain situations, or in front of a computer monitor, compared to A5 or A2 pups?

Thanks,

Joe

hello there:D I am tryng to find you a
site that speaks of the ceramic verses alnico noise situation.;)

Actually, that could very well be true! Almost all my currently installed pick ups have Alnico V magnets, except for my Bill Lawrence L500XL. I find the BL a lot quiter under busy electronical enviremont and high gain. Even my JB tends to buzz slightly

im not sure why but ceramics are quieter than alnicos for sure. like mattpete said, check out a custom then check a cc and the cc has mroe inherent noise. i think alnico II is noisier than alnico V as well

The only thing I can think of is that the A2 emphasizes some critical frequency thata ceramic does not.

The CC can definitely be a noisy pickup.

The alnico magnets have iron in them too and conduct as a result. So there is continuity between cores of both coils, resulting in more noise. This is per Bill Lawrence.
